“Burning Water” refers to petroleum, which was offered from ancient Koshi (now Niigata) as recorded in the Nihon Shoki. This work highlights paraffin wax, a byproduct of petroleum, focusing on its materiality. By using self-made wax as a medium, it explores the connection between material-based expression in contemporary art and environmental resource issues, suggesting coexistence between humans and limited resources.

🔸キャンバスにパラフィン蝋、墨、合成樹脂、アクリル絵具

燃ゆる水は、『日本書紀』に記された越の国から献上された「石油」を指します。本作は、近現代の社会・経済発展に不可欠な資源である石油の派生物であるパラフィン蝋に着目し、素材自体の物質性を前景化しています。
油彩の発明以降、西洋美術史においては物質とイメージの関係性が問い直されてきましたが、本作は現代美術における「マテリアリティ（物質性）」の探求と、環境資源問題という主題を接続させ、限りある資源と人間との共存を示唆しています。
20世紀に展開したミクストメディアやエンカウスティーク技法の系譜を踏まえつつ、自作したパラフィン蝋を画材として用いることで、視覚芸術における新たな表現の可能性を提示しました。
